Chhau Mask - Ganesha
Chhau mask is a traditional craft of Purulia district of West Bengal and is mainly by the artisans of Sutradhār community in Purulia and represents the local culture. These masks are mainly used in Chhau dance as props representing mythological characters such as Durga, Mahishasur, Laxmi, Kali, Kartik, Ram, Sita, Ravana ect. These masks are vibrant, colourful and ornamented and very big in size.
The base of these masks are made up of paper, glue and the facial features are made up of clay. After completing the moulds and sun drying process, these masks are coloured and decorated by the artisans for final finish.
